Coach Stanley Dunbar is the Founder and Director of Breakthrough Elite Football, as well as the Defensive Coordinator at Suffield Academy in Suffield, Connecticut. Suffield Academy is a prestigious prep school competing in the NEPSAC Class A division.
Prior to his current role, Coach Dunbar served as the Head Football Coach at Westerly High School. In his first season at Westerly, he led the Bulldogs to the Division 2 semifinals, where they narrowly lost to his alma mater, St. Raphael Academy, in a closely contested game.
Before coaching at Westerly, Coach Dunbar was the Head Football Coach at Coventry High School. During his first season there, he helped the Oakers snap a 13-year losing streak to Thanksgiving Day rival West Warwick, defeating the Wizards for the first time since 2004. For his efforts, he was named Division 2B Coach of the Year in his rookie season.
A Rhode Island native, Coach Dunbar excelled as a high school player at St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket. In his senior season, he led the Saints to a perfect 13-0 record and a Division 1 State Championship. As the team's star quarterback, he earned First Team All-State honors from the Providence Journal and was named Rhode Island Gridiron Player and Back of the Year by the Providence Gridiron Club.
Coach Dunbar continued his playing career at Dean College, where he helped the Bulldogs win back-to-back conference championships as an All-Conference Defensive Back. He then earned a scholarship to the University of Rhode Island, where he was a two-year starter at cornerback.
His coaching journey began at Portsmouth High School in Rhode Island and includes stints at American International College, Dean College, Coventry High School, Westerly High School, and his current position at Suffield Academy.
Through Breakthrough Elite Football, Coach Dunbar provides young athletes with opportunities to develop their skills, gain exposure, and grow both on and off the field. He is passionate about seeing his athletes succeed in football and, more importantly, in life.
