Founder & Director: Stanley Dunbar

 

Coach Dunbar is the Founder and Director of Breakthrough Elite 7v7, Head Football Coach at Westerly High School and the Director of Breakthrough Football Academy.

In his first fall season in Westerly Coach Dunbar’s Bulldogs made it all the way to the Division 2 semifinal’s where they lost to Coach’s alma mater St. Raphael Academy in a tight game.

Prior to Westerly, Coach Dunbar was the Head Football Coach at Coventry High School. In his first season as the head coach at Coventry the Oakers broke a 13 year losing streak to Thanksgiving Day rival West Warwick, beating the Wizards for the first time since 2004. For his efforts in his rookie season Coach Dunbar was awarded Division 2B Coach of The Year.

A Rhode Island native, he played his high school ball at St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket. In his senior season he led the Saints to a 13-0 record and a Division 1 State Championship. As the star quarterback for the Saints he was named First Team All-State by the Providence Journal and Rhode Island Gridiron Player and Back of The Year by the Providence Gridiron Club.

He went on to play college ball at Dean College for two seasons helping the Bulldogs win back to back conference championships as an All-Conference Defensive Back before earning a scholarship to the University of Rhode Island where he was a two year starter at Cornerback.

Coach Dunbar got his start in coaching at Portsmouth High School in Rhode Island and has had coaching stints at American International College, Dean College, Coventry High School, Westerly High School and is currently at Suffield Academy, a prep school in Connecticut.

Coach Dunbar enjoys seeing his athletes win on the field but more importantly in life!
